Enokitake mushrooms are also known as golden needle mushroom or lily mushroom. These mushrooms are widely used in East Asian cuisine (such as that of China, Japan and Korea) in soups and salads. Though, the cultivated long, thin white mushrooms are used as food rather than the wild mushrooms of dark brown color which naturally grows on the stumps of the Chinese Hackberry trees, mulberry trees and persimmon trees.

Enokitake mushrooms are rich in  protein and antioxidants, like ergothioneine. Some tests proved the possible applications of these mushrooms in the development of vaccines and cancer immunotherapy.
