Shiva Puja Vidhi for Shivaratri and Daily Puja

Shiva Puja Method

You can do this Shiva Puja on Shivaratri and other occasions to please Lord Shiva and to destroy your all sins.

Shiva Puja is the worship of Lord Shiva – known as “The Destroyer” in Hinduism. Lord Shiva always remains in samadhi or trance. He took incarnation as Shiva Linga on 14th day of waning moon of Falgun month of Hindi Calendar.

There are many traditional and ancient rites to worship Lord Shiva with the use of abhisheka, mantra, tantra, kriyas, and mudras. The items and the process of Shiva Puja also vary in various sects.

Here is the easy process of Shiva Puja which you can easily follow on Shivaratri, Shravan month and daily. It is according to scriptures.

The Complete Shiva Puja Step By Step Method

1. Go to a temple and sit near Shiva Linga.

2. Meditation of Lord Shiva and calling Lord Shiva to place of worship
Sit in any meditative posture and meditate on Lord Shiva. During meditation, pray him to come to your place of worship, and stay in Shiva Linga till you complete the puja.

3. Welcome Lord Shiva by offering flowers to him near Shiva Linga

Place flowers near Shiva Linga by saying, “O Lord Shiva! I welcome you. Please stay here until I finish worship.”

4. Sankalp
Take water in your right hand and recite your wish or objective of worship of Lord Shiva and drop the water on ground or in a bowl.

You can also take sankalp like this, “O Lord Shiva! I worship you in Shiva Linga to destroy my all sins and to accomplish 4 goals dharma, artha, kama and moksha.”

Now leave this water on ground or in an empty bowl.

5. Aasan (offering seat)

Offer seat to Lord Shiva by placing a flower on Shiva Linga with reciting mantra “Om Pashupataye Namah” (“ॐ पशुपतये नमः”) only once.

6. Panchopchar Poojan

Worship Lord Shiva with five things, light the lamp and offer him lamp, offer incense stick, offer abhisheka with water, offer ashtagandha to Shiva Linga, Offer Bilva leaves (Bael leaves) and flower garland, offer fruits and sweets. You should make “tripundra” on Shiva Linga with ashtagandha.

Note

According to Shiva Purana, sweets, fruits etc. offered aside Shiva linga can only be taken as prasad by devotee. When you offer sweets, fruits etc. on Shiva Linga, only Chand (A Gana of Lord Shiva) has the right to take it.

Therefore you can not take it or distribute it as a prasad. Food which is offered over Jyotirlinga can be taken as prasad.

7. Shiva Mantra

Recite Shiva mantra “OM Namah Shivaya” (“ॐ नमः शिवाय”) at least 108 times with meditatin on Lord Shiva. You can use rosary of Rudraksha to count Shiva mantra.

8. Shiva Mantra Samarpan

Offer recited Shiva mantra in the lotus feet of Lord shiva. Say, “O Lord Shiva! I did recitation for you, so I offer this recitation in your lotus feet.”

9. Shiva Puja Visarjan

Pray Lord Shiva to go to the mount Kailash where Goddess Parvati also lives. You can say like this, “O Lord Shiva! I thank you very much that you came and recieved my offerings. Now I pray to see you situated again near Goddess Parvati on Mount Kailash.”

Note

  1. When we offer water on Shivalinga it flows down in a particular direction. Because it is sacred water, it should not be crossed. Therefore, you must not move over the place where the water drains.
  2. You can use flowers of Tulsi in Shiva Puja but use of Tulsi leaves is prohibited.

This is an easy and general Shiva Puja Vidhi which everyone can easily follow without any difficulty.
