Step by Step Instructions to Make Tidali
  1. Soak all lentils for 1/2 an hour and drain at the time of cooking.
  2. Put all the ingredients in pressure cooker except the ingredients required for tempering Dal.
  3. Add 300 ml water in it and mix well.
  4. Close the lid of pressure cooker and put the cooker on high flame.
  5. When cooker sounds 1 whistle, reduce the flame to low and let your dal cook for 1 more minute.
  6. Remove pressure cooker from flame and let it cool itself.
  7. Open pressure cooker and take out Dal.
  8. Now, prepare Chaunk for Tidali.
  9. Heat Ghee in a pan on medium flame.
  10. Add chopped garlic in it and cook it till golden brown.
  11. Remove it from flame, add asafoetida and red chili powder in it and immediately pour over Dal to temper your Tidali. You have to do it fast, otherwise garlic, asafoetida and red chili powder should overcook or burn.
  12. Your Tidali is ready. You can garnish it with finely chopped fresh coriander leaves and can serve hot with Roti or Rice.
Recipe Notes
  • If you can’t soak lentils for 1/2 an hour, you have to cook it for approximately 5 minutes in pressure cooker on low flame after 1 whistle.
